“Regional IUCN Red List assessment workshop for Mesoamerican crop wild relatives”
The workshop took place in Cuernavaca, Morelos, Mexico, February 13-17, 2017.
Aim of the workshop: To assess the extinction risk of 251 Mesoamerica CWR taxa using the IUCN Red List Categories and Criteria.
Participants: A total of 22 experts from universities and research institutes from El Salvador, Guatemala and Mexico, along with 13 project collaborators from CONABIO and five IUCN facilitators participated in the workshop.
The threat category of 251 taxa belonging to 17 genera was determined using the IUCN Red List methodology. Preliminary results of this evaluation indicate that 75 of these taxa categorized as threatened (6 Critically Endangered, 48 Endangered and 21 Vulnerable), 11 as Near Threatened, 131 as Least Concern and 34 as Data Deficient.
